Moving ever forward: the time to embrace 2021 is now

Take That said never forget, but they surely didn’t mean the year that we all just experienced. The best way to make 2020 a #hasbeen is to take 2021 by the horns and ride it like there’s no tomorrow. There’s no time like now to hit the reset button, take stock and get revved up for the year ahead. Here are some things you can try!

Cheers to your health

As the clock struck 12 on New Year’s Day, you and your loved ones might have toasted one another. Hopefully, you dedicated one to good health because that’s certainly what 2020 was all about – but in the wrong way. #byefelicia

This year, think about the wealth and privilege that is your health and pledge to do something about it. Make a list of things you want to prioritise – regular health checks, food intake, fitness commitments. A plan will really help you so write it all down and make a resolution to stick to it. No time like the new year for resolutions after all!

Get On Your Feet!

Gloria Estefan’s dance anthem should be your mantra for the year ahead. We all know that committing time to fitness workouts at the gym is always difficult, so why not build movement into your daily routine? This will help you make up for the days when you just can’t squeeze a workout in. A short walk several times a week is great for your overall well-being, as studies have shown. And if you can’t even manage that, then park your car further away at work and stop using the lift. As Gloria sings, “Get up and make it happen”. You totally got this!

Reality bites, eat well!

You could be working out several times a week at the gym, but a good healthy person needs more than just that. A functional, well-balanced diet is what you need. Learn about your body and what it needs, then fill it with the most nutrients it needs. This can be quite an effort but it will be totally worth it. If you’re not ready for something more personalised, then at least do the bare minimum – fresh foods over processed, hydrate well and cut down on refined carbs and sugar. Do you really need to munch on that bag of chips?

Ain’t nobody got time for that

Leave the toxic and negativity behind and find ways to propel yourself forward – personally and professionally – this coming year. This is a good time to take stock of where you are as a person and where you’d like to be. If you’re having a spate of bad luck, seek to find out if there is a common trend among them. Then refocus and build up from there. Where will you like to be in 4-5 years? Think about what you currently lack and plan how you’re going to equip yourself with those skills to hit that target.

The Show Must Go On

Remember that it is only early days in the new year, and after the 2020 we’ve all had, it’s going to take a while before things start to go your way. Be patient, persevere and keep going. If you face any setbacks, do what Taylor Swift would do, and “shake it off”. Tomorrow is a new day, and there’s never a better time to start than now – whenever that is!
